Why I started writing books.

I have to blame my Mama for my current writing career. Also, for my lifelong obsession with reading. My sister and I shared a bedroom, and Mama would come in at bedtime and read to us. EVERY NIGHT, without fail, no matter how grueling a day she had had. When she finished reading to us, she would retreat to her room and read to herself. Her form of escape was romance novels. The characters in them were old friends to her. I understand how she felt since I have developed friendships with the characters in my favorite books. When I learned to read for myself, I have to confess that I would take books to school and hide them inside textbooks to read when I was supposed to be doing other work. As a result, my language and reading skills were very high on every test I ever took. I wish my math abilities had been that high. I worked as a Speech Pathologist for over 20 years in the Public Schools of Mississippi and then went to work full-time teaching Public Speaking at a local Community College. That lasted for another 20 or so years. The last couple of years before retirement were spent as Coordinator of Online Classes. I liked it so much that I retired early, at 62. I had a lot of time on my hands since I was used to working long hours, so I started watching YouTube and learned how to paint with acrylics and resin, then learned how to make jewelry with polymer clay and resin. Then I discovered digital art. I can create videos, create clones, and do some exciting techy kinds of activities. A few years ago, I decided to try my hand at writing, so I took an online class on writing children's books. One of the suggested topics was to write about a magic bookstore. That caught my attention and fired my imagination. So I wrote the first book in my current series, The Enchanted Bookshop Adventures. Book one is The Enchanted Bookshop. I got distracted by some health issues and only recently started back to writing. I have revised the first book and added two more. Book two is The Whispering Books. It is better than book one but the book I just finished is the best of the three. It is The Hidden Map.
